BASPcr

On going :

BASPcr BASPcr is an artistic and civic self-organization initiative founded by architect and gallerist Juan Ramírez, based at Matiz Gallery in Barcelona. Conceived as a response to the ongoing gentrification and erasure of local and migrant communities in the city center, the project reclaims art as a tool for spatial justice, dialogue, and collective agency.

Framed as a multi-phase, two-year process, BASPcr brings together artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners through exhibitions, residencies, and governance labs rooted in the neighborhood of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera. The program centers immigrant and diasporic voices, particularly from the Global South, and works to build sustainable, participatory infrastructures through art.

BASPcr is developed in collaboration with international partners including:

  • HafenCity Universität Hamburg

  • AEA Initiative (a Franco-Georgian platform for artistic activism)

  • 48 Stunden Neukölln – Berlin’s largest independent arts festival

Supported by Creative Europe, the project positions Barcelona’s historic center as a laboratory for inclusive cultural transformation—bridging artistic experimentation with grassroots governance and public engagement.

Women in Art : Lori Goldberg

March 1 – March 31, 2025
In collaboration with Galeries d'Art de Catalunya

To mark International Women's Day, Matiz Gallery presented a solo exhibition by Canadian artist Lori Goldberg as part of its Women in Art series. Through bold colorwork and layered textures, Goldberg transforms the natural world into an abstract landscape of emotional depth and ecological reflection.

Inspired by the forest as a living network, Goldberg’s work bridges artistic spontaneity and ecological systems. Her use of interference paints, metallics, and transparent acrylic layers captures the constant dialogue between light, matter, and movement—mirroring the unseen communication between roots and mycelium beneath the forest floor.

The exhibition was conceived as a multisensory and conceptual experience. From the visual identity to the spatial installation, each element was crafted to echo the artist’s vision of interconnection and resilience. Accompanying materials, including texts, photography, and curated selections of Goldberg’s recent works, invited viewers into an immersive reflection on the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature.

Eccentric Abstraction - Alex Voinea

March 14 – May 31, 2024

Eccentric Abstraction presented a vibrant body of work by neo-expressionist artist Alex Voinea. His paintings explore the collapse of gravity on the canvas—paint strokes float, drip, and collide in mid-air, defying compositional stability. Using bold gestures and experimental techniques, Voinea breaks from formal abstraction in favor of emotional immediacy.

The exhibition was conceived as a full visual and spatial experience. The installation highlighted the performative energy of the works, while the graphic design and curatorial texts underscored the artist’s radical approach to color and motion. From event coordination to digital promotion, every element of the show was tailored to express Voinea’s unique tension between chaos and control.

Contrastes - Jordi Artigas

From Jan. till March 2024:

In Contrastes, Jordi Artigas explores the tension between order and spontaneity through a series of abstract works created with coffee, glue, and water on raw linen. The compositions emerge from a process of slow observation, where the unpredictable movement of liquids is later counterbalanced by precise, minimal color interventions. The result is a dialogue between earthy textures and fluorescent tones, calmness and chaos.

The exhibition design, communication materials, and curatorial framework reflected this duality. The spatial arrangement emphasized the materiality of each piece, while the visual identity and accompanying texts deepened the conceptual reading. A full-color catalogue and photographic documentation complemented the experience, reinforcing Matiz Gallery’s commitment to carefully crafted, immersive exhibitions.
